Breathing in clean air shouldn’t be a luxury, but unfortunately for many Americans, it is. Since the Clean Air Act was passed in the 1970s, our environment has gotten cleaner but too many communities are forced to breathe in toxic, unhealthy air.

To raise awareness of this issue and how we can all work together to fix this, Consumers Union is working with other groups such as MomsRisingNAACP, Presente and American Lung Association to host a “blog carnival” to fight for cleaner, safer air for all Americans. A blog carnival is basically an online action that uses social media (blogs, Facebook, Twitter) to start a conversation about an issue.

We invited some of our most committed activists to send us their own blog posts on this issue, and we received back some amazing responses! You can read what they wrote here, here, and here. And if you would like to share why YOU care about breathing in safer, cleaner air, email us at efoley@consumer.org.

There’s one more thing that you can do right now to help us in this fight. After years of delays, a federal court has ordered tougher pollution standards by mid-December to reduce the amount of soot pollution in our air (high soot levels are linked to increases in asthma and respiratory distress, particularly in children). But powerful lobbyists – including Big Oil and industry – are lobbying hard to stop them.  They want to keep their current polluting levels from refineries, power plants and industrial boilers.

Take a minute now to tell the White House to quash industry delay tactics and put our health first.

With your help, we can ensure that Americans’ health will be protected against dangerous pollution for generations to come.
